Hallo everybody!
I am about to take on a project with Linux on the l137. There seems to be quite a lot of information about how to get up and running, given that there is Montavista available.
My question is: What if I want to get started without montavista, are there patches and tool chain for L137 available to do that. What would the pros and cons be with this approach?
Regards,
Peter

Depends on how quickly you need to get up and running, and whether you have the experience, or access to the experience to get things going. It also depends on your ultimate goal (ie, are you trying to get a commercial product out the door by a specific time?)
Not so sound overly marketey -- but I inevitably will because I'm a marketing guy, I find that developers waste valuable time experimenting with alternative solutions. Getting up and running is a challenge due to the amount of work required to integrate open source software, enable hardware, boot up your system and enable the features you/or your market require. Then, do you plan on supporting your OS into the future, or is it just a one time thing? Either way if you have bugs you need resolved, you need to consider this.
If you go at it alone, you may feel really accomplished at the end, but it'll be a big challenge developing for the OMAP-l137. Finding the right documents and software experts who can help answer specific hardware and software questions, while you're in the middle of it all, may be difficult.

Thanks for the response... I'm overwhelmed!
Steve Chen: I have looked (a little) for the arm_v5t_le compiler but can't find anywhere to download it. Do you have any URL where you know it is?
tkitch: You are absolutely right about the parameters for a successful project, and these are definitely arguments I will bring to my customer. Right now I am gathering as much information I can, to as prepared as possible if I get the assignment.
